Man Found Dead On Chambersburg Street, Police Say (Update)

A man was found dead along West Commerce Street in Chambersburg, prompting a death investigation that temporarily shut down the roadway, police announced Sunday, Feb. 9.

Chambersburg police responded to the 100 block of West Commerce Street around 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a deceased male in the area. Officers arrived alongside the Franklin County Coroner's Office and the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, authorities said.

Investigators determined the man appeared to have died accidentally. His identity has not been released as officials work to notify his next of kin.

Due to the incident occurring outside a residence, fire police diverted traffic from West Commerce Street while the scene was processed. The roadway reopened at 3:15 p.m. Authorities assured the public there was no danger.

The Chambersburg Police Department thanked the Franklin County Coroner's Office, the Chambersburg Fire Department, and fire police for their assistance.
